With laptops getting smaller in size with time, the one feature that is often compromised is the quality of speakers and sound. However, you can resolve this problem by using external speakers. These speakers provide good sound quality, so you can listen to music or watch a movie on your laptop without straining your ears or being disturbed by background hiss.
However, at times, even these external speaks can stop working all of a sudden. It can be frustrating when this happens. Nonetheless, it is a small problem that you can resolve invariably on your own. The first thing is to diagnose the cause. Try to figure out why the speakers are not working. This could be due to a problem in the hardware or software. So, first check all the connections that are located externally. See whether the speakers are plugged into the laptop and also the power source properly. If even then it does not work, then there could be an internal wiring problem. Unplug the speakers and plug in your headphones. See whether you can hear the audio via the headphones. If you can, then the problem lies in the speakers. If you cannot hear anything through the headphones too, the problem is with the software.
If the problem is with the software, check the volume settings. You could have accidentally muted the volume. Remove the muting and you will be able to hear the audio once again. At times, the lack of sound could be due to viruses or software malfunction. Then you can opt for system restore to get back the sound. Software malfunction actually is a problem with the sound drivers. So, uninstall the drivers and then re-install them. This should resolve any issue with the speakers.
